Rep. Barney Frank addresses the National Press Club Luncheon
Washington, DC - Tom Sawyer Company (TSC) Strategist Rhonda Lawson attended the National Press Club’s Luncheon on Financial Regulation on Monday, July 27. The featured speaker was Congressman Barney Frank, (D-Mass.), who is the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.
Congressman Frank spoke on a number of issues including imposing risk retention rules and better regulatory controls. Frank says we need to focus on having the right people overseeing financial institutions and they need to be charged with that responsibility and be held accountable. The congressman said that the Community Reinvestment Act should be strengthened and its reach extended. Congressman Frank’s committee oversees banking, securities and housing; among the committee’s goals is setting up an agency for consumer protection and setting up regulation to strengthen the financial industry.
Lawson is TSC’s Federal Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) subject matter expert. The FHIP is an ongoing Housing and Urban Development (HUD) study that provides funding to select housing organizations and non-profit groups that are building their capacity, establishing new fair housing enforcement regulations and providing fair lending enforcement in underserved areas. The Tom Sawyer Company was contracted by HUD to gather market research on fair lending practices in HUD-specific regions of the country.
